Welcome on the website of the research group Mediacoding
The main objectives of this research group - belonging to the Team SIS of the I3S laboratory - are to develop coding solutions for modern multimedia objects: 2D/3D images UHD/4K video, point clouds, surface or volume meshes, and so on. The tools developed in this group include wavelets, coders, sampling techniques, 3D reconstruction, parametric statistical classification, io-inspired image processing based on neuroscience mathematics (dynamic filtering, spiking neuron models. . . ), etc.
The members of this axis have several national and international collaborations (Portugal, Italy, Tunisia, Brazil) and participate actively to the National GDR ISIS. In addition, the project is involved in several industrial contracts with partners such as Orange Labs, CNES, Alcatel Alénia Space, IFP Energies nouvelles, ETSI, 4G-SGME....
A selection of the current research topics addressed is described next :
- Reconstruction of complex scenes captured by terrestrial LiDARs
- Progressive Compression of meshes for Geosciences
- Surface Sampling and Semi-Regular Reconstruction
- Image and video coding
- Bio-inspired image processing
- Machine Learning for computational biology
Four permanent researchers, one associate member, seven Phd students and one engineer are currently working in this research group.
